I love French toast. I've been eating it since I was a kid. Sometimes, though, it can get stale. That's why I love this yummy twist on my old favorite.

Instructions
It only takes a few simple steps to make this delicious French toast.
Step 1: Prep
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees and grease a 10x7 oval baking dish. Then, slice the croissants in half like a hamburger bun.
Step 2: Make the Egg Mixture
Whisk the eggs, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon zest, and sugar together in a large mixing bowl.
Step 3: Make the French Toast Bake
Soak each croissant in the egg mixture long enough to let it absorb the mixture but not long enough to get soggy. Then, transfer it to the baking dish. Repeat until all the croissant halves are soaked and layered in the baking dish. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes or until ready to bake.
Step 4: Bake
Place the baking dish on the middle rack of the oven and bake for 25 to 30 minutes. Remove the dish from the oven, let the French toast cool for 5 to 10 minutes, then serve with your favorite toppings.
Hint: Always let the croissants chill for 30 minutes to allow the egg mixture to fully penetrate throughout them.
