She wants to stop the ice cream from melting down kids hands from the inside of the waffle cone. The chocolate plugs
Simply add a spoonful of melted chocolate inside the waffle cone while waffle cone is wrapped around bottom of the cone with parchment so hot melted chocolate doesn't run right through your waffle cone.

Melt the chocolate wafers
Use a microwave-safe bowl and be careful melting the wafers. You can also use a double broiler as well, either is fine. Be certain that you're not burning the wafers or you'll have to scrap it and start all over.
You also need to stay close and stir the whole time.
If you are melting your chocolate wafers in the microwave be sure to stir them every 30 seconds or so. It doesn't take long for them to melt and you don't want your chocolate to burn or scorch.
Continue melting your chocolate in 30 second intervals until your chocolate is completely melted and smooth.
How to dip waffle cones
Dipping waffle cones is simple. All you need to do is lightly dip the top of your waffle cone into your melted chocolate until it is about ½ inch coated. Then allow the excess chocolate to drip off.
Want to make sure you get better coverage of chocolate on your waffle cone? I've got a tip for you. Using a bbq brush, paint your melted chocolate onto your cone instead of dipping.
When you use a paint brush you can better control where the chocolate is applied and how thickly it covers your cone.
Add the sprinkles
Once you dip the cone you're going to want to roll it in the sprinkles asap. Trust me on this - roll the cone. Don't try to add on sprinkles by hand as this will take forever and cause you to get frustrated.
Let them dry
The drying process is what takes the longest and is going to require you to let the cones dry for about 30 minutes. But trust me, it's totally worth the wait!
Tips for Making Waffle Cones Dipped in White Chocolate
- Don’t own a double boiler? No worries. Place a heat-safe bowl over the top of a medium bowl and allow it to nest. Place your chocolate inside the bowl and the water in the pot will heat the bottom of the bowl, slowly melting the chocolate inside.
- For this recipe, I highly recommend Ghirardelli Melting Wafers. In my experience, this wafer does the best job at firming quickly and will never require for the chocolate to have to be placed in the freezer for firming.
- Use these cones as a fun way to spruce up your average ice cream cone. The white chocolate wafers add a fun and hardened layer of sweetness.
Can you make these dipped cones ahead of time?
Absolutely. If you know that you're going to be busy, you can make these ahead of time and not feel stressed out. Even a few days ahead of time is totally fine!
How do you store dipped chocolate cones?
The biggest thing to remember is that you want to keep them out of the air. As long as they're stored in an airtight container, they should be good to go. The air is going to cause them to be stale and make them lose their crunch.
Do not store your dipped waffle cones in the fridge. Cold air will make them go soft at lot faster. Be sure to keep them dry and away from air. You also do not want to place your dipped chocolate waffle cones near heat sources.
What type of chocolate do I need to use
I used Ghirardelli candy melts for making these delicious waffle cones. I prefer how easy these melting wafers work. Do not need to add anything like oil to your melted chocolate if you are using these Ghirardelli candy wafers.
If you are using chocolate bars, or chocolate chips, you will need thin your chocolate with a small amount of oil or butter. I use coconut oil and about a teaspoon.
Adding oil or butter to melted chocolate smooths out the chocolate and also makes it easier to dip. Remember, though that you do not need to add oil or butter if you using the candy melts.
Where do I buy chocolate melting wafers
I always buy my candy melts on Amazon. I buy most of my baking supplies online because it saves me from having to take a trip to the store.
Any time I can skip the store I'm going to take that opportunity.
If you are heading into a store you can purchase candy melts at your local big box store or large grocery store. If you have a craft store in your area you can also find these yummy candy melts there on the cake decorating aisles.
Can you freeze white chocolate-dipped cones?
Yep! The same rule applies - just make certain that you're storing the cones in a freezer-safe container so that they're fresh and delicious.
Be careful when freezing your chocolate dipped waffle cones though, they can get soft quickly, so only freeze for then for a short time. No longer than 3 months.
Which candy melts are the best
I personally find that Ghirardelli brand candy melts are my family's favorites. However, I have also used Wilton brand and enjoyed it. If you cannot find Ghirardelli brand new you, Wilton will work just as well.
No matter which brand you us your chocolate dipped cones will turn out amazing for make for a cool treat on a hot summer day.

Red and green are fun for Christmas, orange and black are cute for Halloween, and rainbow colors are super fun for birthday themes, too!
