I’m counting down the days until the 4th of July. I love to kick back with my family and watch the fireworks and take in all the festivities of the day. There’s no better way to spend a hot summer’s day than in the pool and grilling.
Close the day with a beautiful firework display and these oh so soft and delicious cake batter cookies.
What are cake batter cookies
Cake batter cookies are the best cookies that you will ever put in your mouth. Especially on the 4th of July! These delicious and chewy treats are made with cake mix.
The cake mix gives your cookies a very soft texture that your family is bound to love. Not only is the soft texture unique, but that classic cake batter taste is also to die for.
What kind of food coloring do I need
To make these 4th of July cookies, you will need red and blue food coloring. You can use liquid food coloring if that is what you have on hand. However, I personally find that the gel food coloring works better for you. If you want a more profound or brighter color, I suggest you use a food coloring gel. The gel really gives the best colors.
You can change the colors if you are making these delicious cake mix cookies for another holiday. Use any color that matches your event. And, you will still have soft and chewy cookies.
Can I make these 4th of July Cookies ahead
Absolutely, you can make these 4th of July cookies ahead. These delicious red, white and blue cookies will stay fresh for about five days.
However, I recommend if you want to make these festive fourth of July cookies ahead that you make them twenty four to forty eight hours ahead of time. I don’t suggest making them more than forty eight hours ahead so that you have room to have some leftover cookies.
Who doesn’t love getting to eat leftover cookies the next day? I know that I do.
Do I need to chill this cookie dough
No, you don’t need to chill this 4th of July cookie dough. That is one of the best things about this recipe. You can just whip up a batch of these cake mix cookies using the ingredients that you have on hand, and then voila, you have sweet and chewy cookies without them being, so time consuming.
How do I store Fourth of July Cookies
Store your fourth of July cookies in an airtight container on your counter or table. You want to be sure that you keep your cookies away from heat sources. I also do not recommend that you store your cookies in the fridge.
Storing your cookies in the fridge can cause your cookies to dry out and harden.
Can I freeze cake batter cookies
Absolutely you can freeze your fourth of July cake batter cookies. Just a few tips about freezing your cookies, though. First, store your cookies in an airtight freezer safe container such as a freezer bag or plastic container.
Cake batter cookies can keep well for up to 3 months in the freezer. Then, to thaw, simply remove it from the freezer and allow it to come to room temperature on the counter slowly.
Can I use a different type of cake mix
Yes, you can use a different type of cake mix. However, using a different cake mix will change the colors and looks of our cookies.
The only cake mix that will get you the beautiful red, white and blue colors as I have in this recipe is a white cake mix.
Also, keep in mind if you are using a different type of cake, the taste of your cookie will change. That’s not necessarily a bad thing. Just keep in mind that it can alter the cookies.
Can I use parchment paper instead of spraying the baking sheet
Yes! I love using parchment paper when I am baking. Not only does parchment paper help keep your baked goods from sticking to your pan, but it also can help you quickly remove your cookies from your pan.
If you want to use parchment paper instead of cooking spray, feel free to do so. My best tip for using parchment paper for baking cookies is, once your cookies are finished baking, use your parchment paper to slide your cookies right off their baking sheet and onto your cooling rack.
No need to move your cookies one by one to your cooling rack if you line your baking sheet with parchment paper first.
With parchment paper, if you go slowly and carefully, you can move all your cookies at once by sliding the parchment paper from the baking sheet directly on top of your cooling rack. How easy is that?
