    Why You'll Love This Recipe

    • It's made with real syrup: These cookies are made with real maple syrup, so they have an authentic maple flavor. No maple extract here!
    • It's customizable: You can get creative and make this maple pecan cookie recipe more your own by changing the nuts, adding more mix-ins, etc.
    • It's a crowd-pleaser: Everyone loves these cookies. Whether I serve them at home, at a party, or even at a bake sale, they always go fast!

    Ingredients

The main components of these pecan cookies are listed below. They are key to a successful result!

Ingredients to make these cookies in bowls on a table.
    • Butter: I use salted butter, but you may use unsalted if it's what you have on hand. Add a pinch of salt for balance if you go with the unsalted variety.
    • Sugar: I love the combination of granulated sugar and brown sugar in this recipe. The brown sugar adds depth and enhances the maple flavor while also providing a chewy texture. The white sugar helps the edges slightly crisp.
    • Maple syrup: Real maple syrup is key here! Use any brand and grade that you like; they all taste good in this cookie recipe.
    • Pecans: Chopped pecans rather than halves are ideal because they are more evenly distributed through the cookie dough. If you don't like them, leave them out.

See the recipe card below for exact ingredient amounts, nutritional information, and detailed instructions.

    Variations

    • Add a maple glaze: Prepare a quick maple glaze with powdered sugar, milk, and more maple syrup to really take these cookies over the top!
    • Add white chocolate chips: Fold in white chocolate chips for extra pops of richness.
    • Use walnuts: Prepare these maple nut cookies with chopped walnuts instead of pecans for a fun twist.

How to Make Maple Pecan Cookies

Here are the instructions needed to prepare the cookie dough for this delicious maple cookie recipe. Ensure that you preheat your oven to 350 degrees F and line your cookie sheet with parchment paper.

The butter and sugars in a large bowl.

Step 1: Beat the butter and sugar. Combine the butter and sugars in a large bowl and beat them with an electric mixer until fluffy.

Egg and maple syrup added to the bowl.

Step 2: Add egg and syrup. Then, add the egg and maple syrup. Continue beating the ingredients with the mixer until they are smooth.

Dry ingredients added to the bowl.

Step 3: Stir in the dry ingredients. Now you can stir in the dry ingredients until they are just combined and there are no pockets of flour.

The chopped pecans added to the mixture.

Step 4: Fold in the pecans. Next, gently stir in the chopped pecans.

Cookie dough balled dropped onto the baking sheet.

Step 5: Form the cookies. Grab your cookie scoop and drop the cookie dough onto the baking sheet, leaving about an inch of space between each cookie.

Step 6: Bake and cool. Pop the pan into the oven and bake the cookies for about 11 minutes. Allow them to cool slightly before enjoying them!

    Recipe Tips

    • Watch the cookie sizes: Ensure the cookies are uniform in size so they all bake at the same rate.
    • Avoid overmixing the dough: Only mix the cookie dough until the ingredients are just combined to avoid dense cookies.
    • Don't over-soften the butter: You want the butter to be soft but not almost melted. If the butter is over-softened, it will make the cookies spread too much in the oven.

If you enjoy the combination of maple and pecans, you'll love these maple pecan muffins.

    Storage Directions

    • Storing: Store the cookies at room temperature or in the refrigerator for up to 4 days in an airtight container. Freeze them for up to 2 months.
    • Reheating: If you like a warm cookie, I put mine in the microwave for about 10 seconds. I would only heat 1-2 at a time.
    • Make ahead: You can freeze the unbaked cookie dough for up to 3 months. Bake the cookies straight from frozen at 375 degrees F for 12 minutes.

    Serving Suggestions

    • Enjoy a scoop of ice cream with one of these pecan cookies. I highly recommend gingerbread ice cream and peanut butter brownie ice cream.
    • Hot beverages are so good too! Kahlua hot chocolate or a pumpkin chai latte would complement the cookies so well.
    • Prepare a tasty dinner of boneless turkey breast and finish it with one of these homemade cookies.

    Recipe FAQs

Why are the cookies so crispy?

If you bake the cookies for too long, they will become very hard and crispy. Bake them only until the edges are set and start to brown.

How do I know when the cookies are done?

When the centers of the maple cookies are set and the edges are golden, they're ready!

    Can I make multiple batches?

Sure! Prepare a double batch of this cookie dough for a crowd if you like!
