What are Monster Cookies?
Personally, I love the name but it does have some people scratching their heads. Monster cookies seem to be a cookie that not a lot of people are familiar with, but in my opinion, they should be!
The reason that they got the name "monster cookies" is because they're Frankenstein's monster in the world of cookies. These cookies contain a combination of a ton of different ingredients to create something amazing.
Sometimes, it's just a few different kinds of morsels. Sometimes, it's literally everything but the kitchen sink.
Whatever the case, the more you cram into them, the better they are, in my opinion. Fun, right?
Monster cookies are a particularly midwestern thing. I'm not sure exactly where in the midwest or when they were created, but I'm so glad they were. If you're not in the midwest, this might be why you've really never heard of a monster cookie.
They're quite famous there in that part of the world but they're making their rounds elsewhere now because they're so delicious and fun to make.
I could also say that it'd be a safe bet to call these air fryer chocolate chip cookies "Everything but the kitchen sink" cookies because it just might feel like you're adding on just about all the fun ingredients you have in the house!

Air Fryer Monster Cookies Tips
This is an incredibly simple air fryer chocolate chip cookie recipe, but to make sure you get the absolute best air fryer cookies possible, I've included the following tips to help you really master the recipe fast.
Don't Skip the Parchment Paper
So many recipes allow you to put your food directly onto the air fryer basket to cook, but you can't do that with these cookies. They're dough, and before they start to solidify, they'll get melty. If they aren't on a piece of parchment, you'll have a big mess on your hands.
Don't Make the Dough Balls Too Big
In the oven, you have more space, so you can be a bit looser with your dough balls, but in the air fryer, it's a different story. Don't make the dough balls for your air fryer cookies any larger than the recipe calls for.
Don't Overcook the Cookies
You want to take these air fryer monster cookies out of your air fryer as soon as they begin to become golden. Don't leave them in any longer than that or they'll be overdone. Don't worry. They won't be raw!
Don't Overload the Cookies
This is a problem for some people when they start branching out into new variations on this cookie. It's a ton of fun to add in all kinds of ingredients to these cookies, but remember, at the end of the day, these are, in fact, cookies.
If you overload them with too many ingredients or too much of any one ingredient, you'll have less of a cookie and more of a cookie dough-coated mass of mix-ins.
While that actually does sound kind of delicious, it's not exactly what you're looking for when you make these cookies. So have fun experimenting, but remember that cookie dough has to be the main component of any cookie.
Recipe Variations
If you look up the term monster cookies, you'll find a lot of different varieties to cook. There is an absolute ton of recipes for this kind of cookie out there. The good news is that this means that this cookie recipe is easy to adjust as well.
Monster cookies are one of the most versatile cookie recipes you'll ever find. Remember earlier when I said you could use everything but the kitchen sink? Well, that was no exaggeration.
Get creative with all kinds of different add-ins to your cookies. Everything works. Everything! The only problem you might have is trying to put TOO much into your cookie! But, hey, that's what multiple batches are for.
One other interesting twist for these cookies is that you can add a little bit of peanut butter to change up the flavor and taste, too. This makes for a new flavor that everyone is certain to love!
Other ingredients that you can add to your monster cookies are:
- Instant Oatmeal
- Nuts (all types and varieties)
- Different flavors of chocolate chips
- Raisins and other dried fruits
- Chopped candy bar pieces
- Pretzel pieces
- Coconut
And the list could go on and on. As long as you still have some dough to add ingredients, go for it and see what you can come up with!
Storing Air Fryer Monster Cookies
When it comes to storing leftover cookies, the main thing that you need to do is keep them stored in an airtight container. This is the best way to keep them soft and delicious.
Can you freeze cookies for later?
You bet! This is one of my biggest secrets that I love to do! Just simply put your cookies in a freezer-safe bag and add them to the freezer for later. This is an easy way to freeze your cookies so that you can enjoy them later down the road.
I like to freeze my cookies in sets of two or three cookies so that I don't have to unthaw them all when I just want one.
Why are My Air Fryer Monster Cookies Flat?
Okay, usually I have a little FAQ at the end of the post, but this recipe is so easy, there's really no need for one. In fact, there's only one question that might need to be answered with a cookie recipe like this. Why are they flat? I have the answer!
Some people will notice that their cookies are flat once they're cooked. This tends to happen more when you're actually baking them in an oven, but that's not to say that it won't happen in the air fryer, either.
If you notice that your cookies are flat, it might be that the butter is too soft when added to the recipe. The other reasoning is that there just might not have been enough flour added into the cookies to keep them in place.
Either option could be what's happening and is just something to pay attention to and be aware of.
Last, but not least, if you're cooking a batch of cookies and taking them off the air fryer basket and then immediately adding in a new batch of cookies to cook, there's a good chance that they might spread some and flatten out because of the heat from the basket.
