Breakfast and Brunch Charcuterie Board with Waffles

Breakfast and Brunch Charcuterie Board with Waffles includes a list of ideas needed to make the best breakfast or brunch board for you, your family, and friends.

When I first met my husband, he invited me out for dinner. I couldn't believe it but out of everything on the menu, he ordered a waffle. When I mentioned it to him I soon learned that waffles are one of his favorite things to eat on earth.

They are still to this day as a matter of fact.

Regardless, I soon went to work on creating the most incredible waffle board for him. I wanted to impress him and maybe it worked because we've been married a very long time, but not long enough yet! 😉

Waffle Board for Breakfast and Brunch

How could I not create an amazing waffle board for us to use while we enjoy them? I knew if I stayed with this man I'd be eating waffles for a very long time!

And, after years of enjoyment, and with my husband's persistence, I am sharing this amazing waffle board with you today, with all of the different options we include depending on the season and what we are in the mood for.

Everything from strawberry and raspberry sauce to caramel and chocolate. Everything.

My husband even made this list of options himself, especially for each of you so you can all build your own waffle board. A personalized breakfast, brunch, or waffle board of sorts.

Breakfast Board with Fruit and Waffles

We LOVE making waffle board kinds of meals for both breakfast, brunch, and dinner too! They are always a big hit. Just think of all of the possibilities.

You're going to LOVE making a brunch charcuterie board. I just know it.

There's the obvious, and most popular butter and maple syrup which always makes an appearance on every waffle board we make.

I always have to include fresh fruit. Whatever looks great at the store or is in season.

Then there are my homemade strawberry and raspberry sauces which I LOVE to include every chance I get.

I can't forget about peanut butter, hazelnut spread, or Nutella, and this Reeses chocolate peanut butter spread, that I can't stop eating by the way, also should be available to include on their waffle board.

Then there are all of the chips like chocolate chips, peanut butter, caramel, butterscotch, and more. Maybe nuts too, some pecans, flaked coconut and walnuts maybe.

Lastly, you can't forget about the possibility of needing whipped cream or ice cream. We usually do because, let's face it, they both taste delicious on waffles.

    Breakfast Board Ideas

When listing all of our favorite breakfast ideas there are a few we can and can't live without when creating our own personalized brunch boards.

We love to include bacon because bacon makes many things better. This is my favorite baked bacon recipe. If you're in the mood for bacon I urge you to try it.

Once the bacon is almost finished cooking I turn the oven down to low, which is about 200 degrees and leave the door closed. This allows my bacon to finish cooking and still keep warm.

Once the oven temperature is down to low or about 200 degrees, place your waffles inside (and scrambled eggs too, if making) to keep warm until needed. My goodness, I've even made an entire loaf of regular french toast too, and kept it warm inside the oven with bacon and sausage.

We also are in LOVE with these air fryer bacon wrapped sausages. While bacon is cooking inside the oven I either make my quick, homemade sausage rounds wrapped in bacon, and for the record store-bought, frozen sausages work great too, or simply bacon-wrapped sausage links.

All made inside the air fryer. Super easy to make with minimal clean-up.

I am telling you this is going to be your new favorite thing.

Waffle boards or these amazing waffle charcuterie boards are here to stay. Don't you think? You'll be hooked after you try your first one. Just you wait and see.

I have to tell you that my close friend Julie makes these asparagus spears wrapped in bacon every time she makes a waffle board and she says it always disappears first.

She figures her kids experience asparagus and they enjoy the bacon. WIN-WIN.

You now have to think about what kind of waffle you want to make for yourself first! Think about all of your favorite breakfast foods and go from there.

I am going to help you make an epic brunch board! Just you wait and see.

When to Use a Brunch Board

Here's the deal. These boards are POPULAR for good reason. Not only are they fun to make but they're really fun to just sit and eat and gab with friends. I've been making these for a while and they're literally always a hit.

If you have an event or party coming up, dessert boards and breakfast boards are perfect.

    This would be perfect for:

    • baby showers
    • wedding showers
    • birthday parties
    • family gatherings
    • weekend breakfast or brunch with friends

And just about anything else that you have mouths to feed and time to spend together. Most people are still new to the idea of food boards like this so you'd be opening them up to a whole new world of flavor and taste.

An entire waffle board filled with waffles, fresh fruit and raspberry and strawberry sauces. You'll love your brunch charcuterie board

Can you make a charcuterie board the night before?

You can but you have to be careful with this. You can prep and cut up the fruit and things such as that, but you'll want to wait to add on the waffles as they'll become soft and/or soggy if you put them on the waffle board too soon.

How long can a charcuterie board sit out?

It all really depends on what you have on it that determines this length of time. Since this board doesn't have any cheese or dairy products, it should be fine to sit out of the fridge for a few hours.

    Why is charcuterie so popular?

It's because they're so fun! They're also a simple way to have a bunch of flavors and taste with little effort. I always feel that if you like a buffet, you're going to love this type of dish.

A pile of waffles on a brunch charcuterie board covered in strawberry sauce with powdered sugar being sprinkled on top.

    Is charcuterie a meal?

It can be! With everything listed on this platter, it hits all the marks of being comfort food and filling. Healthy meets sweet, meets delicious. Sounds like a meal to me.

What is the difference between antipasti and charcuterie?

Both are simple boards to make but most times, you'll find that the antipasti board will have cheese and meats on it while the charcuterie doesn't have to.

    Are charcuterie boards healthy?

They certainly can be. This is why so many people love to eat them. You can mix and match ingredients and make them taste and look however you'd like.

Overhead shot of a couple waffles with raspberry and strawberry sauce, fresh fruit with a dusting of powdered sugar on a breakfast charcuterie board

How long can you keep charcuterie in the fridge?

With the fresh fruit on this breakfast charcuterie board, three days or so is going to be the lifespan on this board. This will keep the taste optimal and delicious!

Does charcuterie have to be on a board?

It doesn't HAVE to be but it is part of the fun of eating it. If you don't have a wooden board, you can always use a silver platter or a large serving tray, too.

I don't think it's as important as how you present it because I like to focus on the food items more!

What can you do with a leftover charcuterie board?

After serving and letting everyone eat, you can always use the leftover fruit to make a really good fruit salad. It's a simple way to chop up the fruit and enjoy it another way.

brunch charcuterie board, also called a breakfast charcuterie board

    Brunch Charcuterie Board

I started creating breakfast boards using cutting boards I had around the house. Once I realized I was going to keep on making them I knew I had to find better options.

I have experimented for a long time with breakfast charcuterie boards.

My favorite boards to use for a DIY waffle board or boards are my baking pans that are 21” x 15” or a 20″ round pizza pan. I prefer to use pans with a rimmed edge so nothing falls off of each board! Ultimately however there are just so many options to choose from.

My friend spent about $50 on this fancy shmancy food board, uses it all the time, and LOVES it.

These boards are beautiful bamboo and sell for under $20. They have specific spaces to place ingredients which will make serving a little easier. Overall, unnecessary, in my opinion.

As far as serving bowls go I use whatever will fit or what I can find. Everything from coffee cups to shot glasses to small jars works great too. Everything and anything will work. I can almost guarantee it!

    Brunch Board Instructions

Below are the simple directions to make your brunch board. Feel free to alter and change this up as needed.

    1. Grease your mini waffle maker with nonstick cooking spray
    2. Mix together waffle mix, milk, olive oil, cinnamon and nutmeg. Mix well
    3. Pour 2 tablespoons of waffle batter into the waffle maker
    4. Cook each batch of waffles for 3-5 minutes until golden brown
    5. Once your waffles are cooked, begin making your strawberry sauce
    6. In a medium saucepan, combine the strawberries, sugar and mint over medium heat. Stir together until well blended
    7. Bring to a boil for 15-20minutes. Set aside to cool
    8. Next, make your raspberry sauce. In a medium saucepan, combine together raspberries, sugar and lemon juice. Mix until well combined
    9. Bring to a boil for 5 minutes
    10. Once your waffles and sauce toppings are made, begin to assemble your brunch charcuterie board
    11. Start with placing your sauces on the board. Line both sauce bowls with waffles and connect them in the middle
    12. In opposite corners of the board, begin placing your orange and grapefruit slices
    13. Fill the next closest layer with extra strawberries and raspberries
    14. Lastly fill in the remainder with your watermelon slices, bananas, grapes, and mango slices
    15. Serve mini platters with fruit and stacks of waffles. Top waffles with strawberry sauce and raspberry sauce. Optional: pour syrup and/or top with powdered sugar

I believe the most important tip when making waffles, homemade or not, is to use a thick batter. For those of you that prefer to make homemade waffles, here is the recipe I use.

Easy and works perfectly, every time.

Makes three or four full-size waffles, depending on the size of your waffle maker.

Half of a breakfast board full of waffles, raspberry sauce, strawberries, pineapple, grapes, bananas and watermelon.

    Homemade Buttermilk Waffles Recipe

Making your own waffles isn't hard to do, either. Here is my fool-proof waffle recipe that will make the perfect waffles for your breakfast charcuterie board.

If you're looking for the perfect mini waffle maker have a look or check this one out. Both are wonderful and make the BEST mini waffles. If you prefer, simply make a large waffle for each person too.

Frankly, when home, my husband loves our large Belgian waffle maker and now that is what we use most. This one my son uses costs less than $20.

If you're thinking about investing in a waffle maker you definitely don't need to spend a lot. Here is what you need to make the best homemade buttermilk waffles recipe.

    • 1 cup all-purpose flour
    • ½ teaspoon salt
    • 1 teaspoon baking soda
    • 1 egg, separated
    • ⅞ cup buttermilk
    • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

    How to make homemade waffles

In a medium-sized mixing bowl combine flour, salt, and baking soda.

In another small bowl whisk yolk, buttermilk and butter together.

And in yet another small bowl beat egg white until a stiff peak forms. Do not skip this step. It is so worth it.

Gradually add buttermilk mixture to flour mixture using a spatula. Do not just dump liquid inside the bowl, even though tempting.

Once incorporated, gently fold in egg white.

According to your manufacturers, instructions fill up your waffle maker and cook until golden, 3 to 5 minutes.

Serve immediately or keep warm inside your 200 degree oven for up to 5 minutes.

You also have the option to make homemade frozen toaster waffles with your leftover batter. Simply undercook the waffles slightly, cool on a wire rack, cover tightly with plastic wrap and freeze in an airtight container or resealable bag.

Toast whenever desired and serve with your favorite toppings.

Variations for Making a Waffle Brunch Board

The biggest thing to remember when making this brunch charcuterie board is that you don't have to put a ton of pressure on yourself. If you want to make homemade waffles, do so. If you don't, don't.

You can easily buy premade waffles at the store and keep it simple, too.

And if you're on a budget, buy the fruit at the store that is on sale for the week and tailor your breakfast charcuterie board ingredients that way. While this simple recipe is a great guide, it doesn't mean it's the only way to make it.
