    Christmas Cupcake Decorating Ideas

I don't know about you but sometimes I really struggle with coming up with new and fun Christmas dessert recipe ideas every year. I always like to bring out a new and festive dish along with some family favorite recipes.

A few weeks ago, I found myself strolling through the aisles at the grocery store and came across an upside box of ice cream cones on the shelf. As soon as I saw that upside-down box it dawned on me that they would look great painted and on top of a Christmas cupcake. And, thus these Elf Hat Cupcakes were brought to life.

    Ingredients

Are you to have some fun in the kitchen and make these festive cupcakes? Here's what you need to put these Elf Hat cupcakes together.

    • green candy melts
    • white candy melts
    • vegetable shortening or coconut oil
    • mini marshmallows
    • frosted cupcakes
    • ice cream cones

See the recipe card for quantities.

    Instructions

Now that you are ready to make these easy ice cream cones elf hats, all you need to do is follow these easy six steps.

Step 1: Prep the baking pan

Prepare a baking sheet with waxed paper.

Step 2: Melt your candy melts

In a microwave-safe bowl, place the white candy melts. Heat in the microwave for 30 seconds and stir. Continuing heating in 30-second increments, stirring well after each. If the candy melts overheat or are not smooth enough to pour, add 1 to 2 teaspoons of coconut oil or vegetable shortening and stir well.

Step 3: Coat the cone with white candy melts

Holding the cone, spoon the white around the rim of the ice cream cone. Tap gently to allow the excess to drip back into the bowl. Allow the cone to dry completely.

Step 4: Melt the green candy melts

In a microwave-safe bowl, place the green candy melts. Heat in the microwave for 30 seconds and stir. Continuing heating in 30-second increments, stirring well after each. If the candy melts overheat or are not smooth enough to pour, add 1 to 2 teaspoons of coconut oil or vegetable shortening and stir well.

Step 5: Coat your coat in green candy melts

With your hand inside the ice cream cone, spoon the green over the cone but not overlap the white candy. Tap gently to allow the excess to drip back into the bowl.

Step 6: Add marshmallow and allow to dry

While the green candy melts are still wet, top the cone with a marshmallow. While the green candy melts are still wet, top the cone with a marshmallow. Place on the prepared baking sheet to dry. When ready, place one elf hat on each cupcake.
