History of Bagels
Don’t worry, this won't be a 1,000 word deep dive on bagels, but this traditional Jewish bread product does have an interesting background worth mentioning.
Bagels are old. Really old. They first made their way to Poland and other parts of Europe in the 1600s. There is speculation that bagels are related to an ancient Arabic bread product called ka’ak.
So they’ve been around for a while.
New York is the home of the most authentic bagels anywhere in the USA because that’s where Polish and Jewish immigrants first settled.
Of course, they brought this delicious bread treat with them.
As more and more people discovered bagels, their popularity exploded, and today you can find them everywhere from mom and pop bakeries to prepackaged in the bread aisle at your store.
Pumpkin Pie Bagels
These pumpkin spice bagels are delicious, and they cook up so fast! They're the best combination of delicious and fast, and I think it's a great duo.
In less than 25 minutes from start to finish you can have a toasty air fryer pumpkin bagel sitting before you, ready to eat.
Just wait until you smell your house while this pumpkin pie bagel recipe cooks. There's nothing like it.
Normal air fryer bagels use a mixture of self-rising flour with Greek yogurt. Since I used pumpkin puree it is wetter than Greek yogurt so the ratio for these bagels is different.
The pumpkin flavor really comes through on these bagels along with the spice.
Pumpkin Bagel Recipe Calories
These tasty homemade bagels only have 148 calories in each. Now, what could be better than that? Oh, wait. The flavor. The flavor is even better than the calorie count. So what you get is a bagel that is both incredibly delicious AND low in calories. It's a win-win all the way around!
Just wait until you taste them.

Pumpkin Bagel Recipe without Bread Machine
In a large bowl, stir together the flour, sugar, pumpkin spice, and salt.
Add the pumpkin puree and stir until combined into a dough, you may need to use your hands to form a smooth dough.
Lightly flour a work surface and knead the dough a few times to get a uniform dough. The dough should be slightly dry but it holds together.
If your air fryer requires preheating, preheat it on the air fryer setting at 350°F for five minutes.
Divide the dough into four parts and roll the portions into balls.
On your lightly floured work surface roll each portion into a long log eight to nine inches long.
Bring the two ends together and pinch them together to form a circle.
Repeat with the remaining dough balls.
In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water.
Spray the air fryer basket with olive oil spray.
Place the bagels into the air fryer about one inch apart, you may need to air fry in batches.
Brush all over the tops of the bagels with the egg wash.
Air fry seven to eight minutes until very lightly browned and cooked through. Repeat with the remaining bagels.

What Can I Add instead of Pumpkin Pie Spice?
These Air Fryer Pumpkin Bagels make the house instantly smell like fall. But if you do not like pumpkin spice I suggest using cinnamon in its place, maybe a ¼ teaspoon of nutmeg too.
How to Toast an Air Fryer Pumpkin Bagel
I love to cut open the bagels lengthwise and pop them back into the air fryer cut side up for an additional three minutes to toast.
Works beautifully, every time.
How to Store Air Fryer Pumpkin Bagels
These bagels are good for two to three days at room temperature, needing to store them any longer and I suggest they be frozen. They are good for up to three months in the freezer.
The best way to freeze pumpkin pie bagels is to let them cool completely in the refrigerator and then wrap them individually in cling wrap. After that, place them in an air tight, freezer safe container or heavy duty freezer bags.
To eat these delicious pumpkin spice bagels, after freezing, simply allow them to thaw in the refrigerator overnight and then toast them in the air fryer.
Don't defrost the bagels at room temperature. It will cause condensation and make your bagels soggy. It also contributes to bacteria growth. Yuck!
