    Air Fryer Hasselback Potatoes

    Air fryer Hasselback potatoes are rich, buttery, and delicious, and they're so easy to make.

    Potatoes are the king of sides in our home, and in most homes, I imagine. From baked to scalloped and everything in between, we love our spuds served as a side dish or a meal.

    One of my favorite ways to prepare them is to make Hasselback potatoes, air fryers work beautifully to make them. This version is absolutely delicious and so easy to create.

    Top Tip:

    Be sure to cut only ¾ of the way down. You want the potatoes to remain intact while cooking.

    Ingredients

    You'll only need simple ingredients to make this recipe, and you probably already have them in your kitchen!

    Substitutions and Variations

    • Use Any Potato - Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes are most commonly used but red or white will also work well.
    • Load Them Up - Add sour cream, crumbled bacon, shredded cheese, or any of your favorite toppings.
    • Brush Melted Butter - Use extra butter or garlic butter for a nice change.

    Instructions

    Making these potatoes is just as easy as the ingredient list. The highlights are below, but you can find the complete instructions in the recipe card at the end of the post.

    1: Wash and scrub the potatoes clean. Dry with paper towel. Next, you need to cut the potatoes. Thinly slice or cut slits into each and place a pat of butter in between each cut.

    2: Season with salt and pepper, place in air fryer basket and then air fried until tender.

    3: Remove carefully from air fryer and brush the potatoes with a small bowl filled with melted butter, right before serving. You'll be glad you did!

    Storage

    Refrigerator: Store in an air-tight container for up to 4 days.

    Freezer: Hasselback potatoes don't freeze well.

    Reheat: Let the potatoes come to room temperature. Then, bake them for 15 to 20 minutes at 350 until heated through.

    What are Hasselback potatoes?

    When you get right down to it, they're just fancy-looking baked potatoes. Slits are cut into the tops of the potatoes and then stuffed with butter to create buttery baked potatoes.

    Why are they called Hasselback potatoes?

    They're named after the Hasselbacken restaurant in Stockholm, Sweden where they were invented in the 1940s.

    Why can't you freeze Hasselback potatoes?

    Regular baked potatoes can be frozen because the skin protects the flesh within. Hasselback potatoes are cut open, so they flesh is exposed.

    • Sharp knife

    Ingredients
      

    • 3 medium-sized potatoes
    • 8 oz butter chilled
    • Salt and pepper

    Instructions
     

    • Using a sharp knife, make slits across each potato about ⅛ to ¼ inch apart, making sure to cut ¾ of the way down the potato but not all the way through.
    • Place a thin slice of butter in each of the slits.
    • Place prepared potatoes into your air fryer basket.
    • Salt and pepper the potatoes.
    • Air fry at 350ºF for 15 minutes or until potatoes are tender.
    • Carefully remove potatoes from air fryer basket.
    • If you choose to, you can brush melted butter over top before serving.
