Taste of Iceland arrives in Vancouver for the first time on Wednesday, November 11, and runs through Saturday, November 14. Organized by Inspired by Iceland, the festival spreads across several city venues and uses food, music, art and travel storytelling to introduce different sides of Icelandic culture.

The opening night concert at The Pearl

The first big festival moment is a free Iceland Airwaves Off-Venue concert at The Pearl on November 11, with doors opening at 7:00 PM. The lineup is curated by Iceland Airwaves, the Reykjavík festival known for spotlighting current Icelandic music.

The bill brings together three distinct acts. virgin orchestra is a trio built around cello, guitar and vocals, blending post-punk, electronic influence and dreampop. SCAM delivers techno with euro-pop energy, while DJ Hermigervill fills the space between sets with Icelandic tracks.

That mix matters because it gives the opening night a broad view of contemporary Icelandic sound, not just one genre or mood. For a single image, The Pearl stage, crowd and performers would capture the festival's first impression well.

From November 12 to 14, Hawksworth Restaurant becomes the festival's culinary center with a pop-up menu served at lunch and dinner. Icelandic Chef Ísak Darri collaborates with Canadian Chef David Hawksworth on a prix fixe meal inspired by Iceland's landscape and local flavors.

Two ingredients named in the festival announcement are cod from Icelandic Seafood and lamb from Icelandic Lamb. Those details make the menu more than a generic Nordic dinner, because the products tie directly to Iceland's food identity.

This is also one of the clearest examples of the festival's cross-cultural idea. A Vancouver dining room and a visiting Icelandic chef meet on shared ground, letting one photograph of a plated course or the chefs at work stand in for the whole exchange.

    The World's Worst Photographer exhibit

One of the most unusual events is Iceland by the World's Worst Photographer at J Lounge. The exhibit runs from 12:00 to 5:00 PM on November 13 and from 3:00 to 5:00 PM on November 14.

Icelandair says the project began with a search for the World's Worst Photographer to prove that even a very bad photographer can take great photos of Iceland. Out of nearly 130,000 applicants, Blanche Mortemard was selected and spent 10 days photographing some of Iceland's best-known landscapes.

The festival notes that the project pushes back against AI-generated travel imagery and emphasizes photos that tell a story. That gives the exhibition an angle beyond scenery alone, making Mortemard herself, or one of her images on gallery walls, a strong visual subject.

Jazz and cocktails on November 13

Friday's schedule shifts into a more intimate register with two events that lean on mood and storytelling. At The Hargrove from 6:00 to 7:00 PM, the Reykjavík Jazz Festival presents saxophonist Óskar Guðjónsson and electric bassist Skúli Sverrisson.

The festival describes them as two of Iceland's most distinctive voices in contemporary jazz, working in a style that is melodic, atmospheric and precise. A performance photo here would likely center on the closeness of the room and the duo's understated stage presence.

Earlier that day, J Lounge hosts Across Iceland: A Guided Cocktail Journey from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Storyteller Ragnar Bragason and mixologist Arnór Gísli shape the event around one continuing narrative and three signature drinks, each tied to an Icelandic region, mood and landscape.

A Stanley Park ride with Icelandic ties

On November 14, the festival heads outdoors with A Social Ride in Stanley Park with Lauf Cycles. The event runs from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM and follows a 24km, or 15 mile, route at a welcoming pace.

Canadian Lauf rider Oskar Stack-Michasiw joins the ride, giving the event a clear link to the Icelandic cycling brand. After the route, participants gather for food, company and a raffle with a chance to win a trip to Iceland and the Lauf Rift Gravel Race.

This stop broadens the festival beyond indoor performances and dining rooms. It also offers one of the easiest image opportunities in the program, with cyclists moving through Stanley Park and branding that connects Vancouver's local riding community to an Iceland-based company.

Northern lights, comedy and a festival close

The final afternoon and evening at J Lounge combine science, travel fantasy and comedy. Northern Lights Over Vancouver runs from 1:00 to 3:00 PM, hosted by Icelandia and led by astronomy and science educator Sævar Helgi Bragason.

The program includes a crash course on Iceland's northern lights, which the festival says are expected to put on an even brighter show in 2026 and 2027. Guests also get a virtual reality look at Icelandia's northern lights tours, glacier hikes and ATV adventures, plus a chance at the Wheel of Prizes.

Later, Iceland Unfiltered runs from 5:00 to 7:00 PM for adults 19 and older. Comedians Ragnar and Bergur Ebbi use stories about wind, darkness, short summers and Icelandic life to close the festival on a candid, funny note that feels personal rather than polished.
