President's Choice has reformulated its PC Nutrition First dry dog and cat food for Canadian pet parents. The update is designed to bring more specialty style features into the grocery aisle, with recipes that aim to balance convenience, ingredient standards and price.
The grocery aisle focus

This launch is built around a simple idea: many families want to buy pet food where they already shop for the rest of the household. President's Choice says the reformulated PC Nutrition First line is meant to close the gap between the grocery aisle and the pet specialty store.
The company announced the reformulated products on October 7, 2026, in Brampton, Ontario. It says the dry dog and cat food is available at participating Loblaw banner stores across Canada and online.
That matters because convenience is part of the pitch here, not just the formula itself. Loblaw frames the line as a way for Canadians to avoid an extra errand while still finding more considered nutrition for dogs and cats.
What changed in the recipes

The headline change is that every PC Nutrition First dry dog and cat food recipe is veterinarian formulated. President's Choice also says real meat is the first ingredient in every dry food recipe.
According to the company, the recipes include thoughtfully selected nutrients to support energy, healthy digestion, building blocks for strength and a healthy coat. Those are the core benefits highlighted across the reformulated range.
The formulas are also built around exclusions that many shoppers look for on labels. President's Choice says the recipes are formulated without artificial flavours or synthetic colours, animal by-products, corn, wheat or soy.
Options for different pets

A single pet food formula rarely fits every household, and President's Choice is leaning into that reality. The company says the PC Nutrition First portfolio includes choices for different life stages, breeds, sizes and nutritional needs.
That means shoppers can look for recipes tailored to sensitive stomachs, skin and coat care, weight management and oral care. Select recipes also offer grain-free options for pet parents who prefer that type of formula.
The company also highlights cognitive support in certain recipes. Some are formulated with DHA or antioxidants to help support cognitive health, adding another targeted feature beyond basic daily feeding.
Digestive support and protein

Digestive health is one of the clearest functional claims in the updated lineup. President's Choice says all recipes include prebiotics and probiotics to help support a healthy digestive tract.
Protein is another major part of the brand's message. The company says the real meat first approach provides essential amino acids from protein to support heart and eye health.
Those details place the reformulation in the category of feature driven dry food, rather than a basic commodity product. For shoppers scanning bags in a grocery aisle, these are the kinds of specifics that help explain how one formula differs from another.
The price comparison

Price is a major part of this rollout, and President's Choice is specific about the comparison. The company says PC Nutrition First is priced up to 40% less per 100g than select comparable dry dog and cat foods at pet specialty retailers.
That figure comes with an important qualifier. Loblaw says the comparison is based on average regular retail price per 100g of the brands shown in its chart, and that prices may vary by store.
Even with that caveat, the company is clearly positioning the line as a value play as well as a formulation upgrade. The message is that pet parents should not have to choose as sharply between convenience, premium style features and cost.
A broader family pitch

April Preston, Senior Vice President Control Brand, Product Management & Innovation, connected the launch to everyday life with pets. She said that with four dogs and three cats at home, she sees quality, taste and simplicity as central to great pet care.
Preston also said the reformulation is intended to make premium, veterinarian formulated nutrition more accessible in the grocery aisle. In her words, the goal is to help Canadian families nourish the pets they love without the extra errand or specialty price tag.
That sums up the broader strategy behind this update. PC Nutrition First is being marketed as a family grocery run purchase that still offers targeted nutrition features often associated with pet specialty shelves.
