Mustard Maple Syrup uses a spicy or honey mustard with maple syrup to create the perfect maple syrup for chicken and waffles and so much more. If you love maple syrup like we all do you're going to love this easy recipe!

Both my husband and I have been lifelong lovers of maple syrup. I remember tapping maple trees with my grandpa when I was young. My grandma made the best homemade maple syrup I've ever tried and I enjoyed every drop.

She served everything from pancakes, french toast, sweet potatoes, baked beans, porridge or oatmeal and ice cream. All with maple syrup all over them.

    We never wasted a drop.

I still remember the first time she served her fried chicken and waffles. I was so impressed and absolutely loved it. Eventually, my husband and later my son, fell in love with it too.

As a result of our love of chicken and waffles we've perfected a couple different kinds of flavored maple syrups. Just to switch things up and boy oh boy were we glad we did.

My grandmother would have been so impressed. I think you will be too.

    Honey Mustard wih Maple Syrup

This was inspired by this spicy maple syrup on this site. It pairs well with this chicken waffle taco.

You could also use it on this fried chicken and waffles recipe. It's great because it works with so many things.

    Ingredients

This recipe only requires four ingredients and you may already have them inside your home right now.

    • maple syrup
    • honey
    • spicy brown mustard or yellow, dijon or your favorite mustard
    • brown sugar

See recipe card below for exact quantities.

    Instructions

You're going to love how fast and easy this syrup is to make.

    Step 1: Combine the Ingredients

In a small mixing bowl combine maple syrup, honey, mustard and brown sugar. Whisk until blended. Taste to see if you prefer to adjust amount of sweet or mustard.

    Step 2: Store your Syrup

Place blended syrup inside a sealed container in your fridge until needed.

Hint: Experiment with different amounts and combinations of mustards to come up with the perfect tasting syrup for you and your family.

    Substitutions

Don't have the correct ingredients on hand? Or want to change something up? Here are some helpful tips for you to change this honey mustard with maple syrup recipe.

    • Spicy Brown Mustard - use yellow mustard, dijon or your favorite mustard instead
    • Maple Syrup - use corn, sugar cane, golden or agave syrup instead

    Variations

Want to personalize this mustard maple syrup recipe? Here are some of my tried and true tips for changing up this recipe.

    • Extra Spice- add cayenne pepper or ground chipotle powder to imbue heat into the dish
    • Add Ground Cloves - adds aeromatics and a different dimension to flavor
    • Maple Butter - Serve with a smear of quick homemade maple butter to impress your guests using ¼ cup maple syrup and a half cup of softened butter, blended until smooth. Syrup and butter can also be whisked until combined over low heat to reach better consistency, if desired.

Our Cranberry Syrup is great to serve over the holidays. It pairs very well with turkey dinners of all sorts.

    Equipment

You only need a few things to make this super easy recipe. My husband will simply grab a mason jar, pour in the ingredients, place lid on usually too tight and he gives it a shake.

His theory is the less dishes the better. Apparently I have a tendency to make things more complicated. Either way you'll love this syrup.

Regardless, here is what you'll need:

    • mixing bowl
    • whisk
    • mason jar or a resealable container for storage

    Storage

Store this honey mustard with maple syrup in a container with a tight-fitting lid for up to 2 weeks inside your fridge.

    Tips

This recipe is always a lot of fun to experiment with, depending on who you're serving. It's so easy to adjust. Here are a few of my tried and true tips.

    • A whisk works much better than a spoon for this recipe.
    • Experiment with different combinations of mustards until you're satisfied with the flavor.
    • Use less dishes and add ingredients into a mason jar with a lid. Seal lid and shake until blended.
