Ingredients

Instructions

  • Begin heating a large skillet over low-medium heat.
  • In a small mixing bowl, beat eggs, milk, sugar, and cocoa powder together. It will take a bit to incorporate the cocoa powder.
  • Dredge each slice in the egg mixture, allowing it to soak for about 5 seconds.
  • Allow excess egg mixture to drip off and place dredged slices in your heated, greased skillet.
  • Cook for 3-4 minutes on each side or until they are golden brown.
  • Place chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave in 30-second intervals until they are completely melted. Stir often.
  • Spread a layer of chocolate in between two pieces of French toast to create a sandwich.
  • Serve with toppings of your choice. (fruit, syrup, whipped cream, etc.)

Notes

    • Use thick bread (¾ - 1 inch thick slices ideally) for a more substantial French toast.
    • To ensure your toast is cooked thoroughly, heat your pan over low-medium heat and cook each side for 3-4 minutes or until golden brown.
    • When spreading melted chocolate between two pieces of French toast try using a butter knife or the back of a small spoon as opposed to pouring chocolate directly onto the slices.
    • Assemble all ingredients prior to beginning so that everything is ready when needed.
    • Let the egg mixture sit for a few minutes to ensure that it is fully incorporated before coating your bread slices in it.
    • Toast each side of the French toast on low heat until golden brown, ensuring that all of the chocolate chips are melted throughout before serving.
    • If using day-old bread slices allow them to soak longer than 5 seconds so that they can absorb the maximum amount of egg mixture.
    • Make sure to evenly coat each side of the bread with the egg mixture so that it is completely covered and will cook properly.
