  • Preheat the oven to 350°F/180°c.
  • Add the all purpose flour, brown sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder and salt to a large mixing bowl. Whisk until well combined.
  • Add the milk, melted butter, egg and vanilla extract to another large mixing bowl. Whisk until well combined.
  • Pour the combined wet ingredients into the bowl with the dry ingredients. Whisk until just smooth and combined. Spoon the batter into a medium sized, approximately 1.5 quart baking dish and smooth the surface.
  • To make the sauce, whisk together the boiling water, brown sugar and cocoa powder in a heatproof jug or bowl. Pour the sauce mixture gently over the cake batter.
  • Bake the cobbler for 25-30 minutes, or until the cake has risen through the sauce mixture and has set.
  • Serve while warm.

Notes

  • Store extra chocolate cobbler in an airtight container for up to 3 days in the fridge.
  • Don’t stir the cobbler once you pour the sauce mixture on top. Leave it as is so it bakes properly.
  • Grease the baking dish well to ensure the top layer doesn’t stick to the sides of it.
