Ingredients

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and prepare a baking sheet by lining with parchment paper. Set aside.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda and salt until well combined. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl, use an electric mixer on medium low speed to combine the granulated sugar and butter until light and fluffy.
  • Add the egg and vanilla extract and continue mixing until fully mixed.
  • Slowly add the flour mixture, ½ cup at a time until everything is well incorporated. The dough should have the consistency of playdough. Add optional milk or more flour to reach desired consistency.
  • Use a small cookie scoop to roll cookie dough balls.
  • Roll the dough balls in colored sugar and place on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake for 8-10 minutes or until the edges begin to turn light brown.
  • Remove from the oven and place a Hershey Kiss in the center of each cookie.
  • Allow to cool completely, then serve.

Notes

Optional Variations
  • Gluten-Free - Use your favorite cup-for-cup all-purpose gluten-free flour blend instead.
  • Vegan - Swap in plant-based butter and your favorite vegan egg substitute (e.g. JUST Eggs, ¼ cup of applesauce or mashed banana, or a flax egg.)
  • Get Zesty - Add lemon, lime, grapefruit, or orange zest to your dough for a pop of citrusy flavor.
  • Go Nuts - Add your favorite chopped nuts to the cookie dough or sprinkle on top after baking for an extra crunchy texture.
  • Mix-Ins - Add mini chocolate chips, crushed pretzels, tiny candy decorations like mini M&M's, or dried fruit like apricots, cherries, or craisins to the cookie dough before baking them
  • Color Coordinate - Use colorful sprinkles, edible glitter, or colored decorating sugar crystals to coordinate with any occasion, any time of year. (Think: purple, orange, and black for Halloween, red and green for Christmas, blue and silver for Hannukah, red and blue for 4th of July, your school colors, or whatever colors you’re using for any party.)
  • Dip Them - Use melted white chocolate to dip the cookies into, promptly lay them on parchment, and decorate them with sprinkles before the chocolate has set.
  • Cheater’s Blossoms - Feel free to swap in your favorite pre-made sugar cookie dough for an even easier treat!
