Smoked Barbecued Baked Beans

These smoked BBQ beans are loaded with delicious flavor. These smoked BBQ baked beans are completely from scratch but so easy to make.

Ingredients

  • 1 onion chopped fine
  • 10 slices bacon
  • 5 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • Salt and pepper
  • 5 ½ cups water plus extra as needed
  • 1 pound dried navy beans 2 ½ cups, picked over and rinsed
  • ¾ cup barbecue sauce
  • ½ cup brewed coffee
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 tablespoon cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon dry mustard
  • Hot sauce to taste (optional)

Instructions

  • Gather all the ingredients needed

  • Microwave onion, bacon, garlic, oil, and ½ teaspoon salt in bowl, stirring occasionally, until onion is softened, about 5 minutes.

  • Add onion and bacon mixture to a heat safe pan.
  • Stir in water, beans, ¼ cup barbecue sauce, coffee, and bay leaves.

  • Smoke at 200 degrees for 5 hours

  • Discard bay leaves. Stir in vinegar, mustard, and remaining ¼ cup barbecue sauce.

  • Smoke for an additional hour
