Prepare a 8 quart slow cooker with cooking spray.
Season the flank steak with garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, salt and pepper.
Heat oil in a large skillet over high heat and sear the seasoned flank steak on both sides.
Place the steak in the prepared slow cooker.
In a small bowl, soften the garlic and onions in the microwave for about 3 minutes then distribute them evenly around the flank steak.
In a second small bowl, whisk together the au jus mix and beef broth until well combined and pour over the steak, garlic and onions.
Place the butter on top of the steak.
Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or high for 3-4 hours.
Remove from the slow cooker and shred or slice. (The meat is more likely to shred as it will be super tender from cooking low and slow.)
Top with optional fresh parsley and serve.
